Iran is ready to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector with Turkey: Raisi

Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi on Sunday held a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, calling for practical measures to enhance bilateral ties and address the Gaza crisis.

 

During their talks, Raisi said it was necessary for the two sides to further strengthen political, economic and cultural relations, according to a statement published on the website of the Iranian President's Office.

 

He also expressed Iran's willingness to enhance bilateral cooperation with Türkiye in the energy sector, hoping that Tehran-Ankara cooperation would help safeguard the interests of both nations and promote unity and solidarity in the Muslim world.

 

As regards the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, Raisi said that Israel violated international law by continuing its military operations in Gaza, despite a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the coastal enclave during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

 

The Iranian president called for greater synergy, cooperation and unity among Muslim countries within the frameworks of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation as well as other regional and international organizations to help Gazans and send humanitarian aid to the Strip.

 

For his part, the Turkish president reaffirmed his government's commitment to following up on and implementing the agreements signed between the two sides during the Raisi's visit to Ankara in late January.
