French intellectuals of Armenian descent call on Senate to ratify genocide bill.
DiasporaRepresentatives of French intellectuals of the Armenian descent headed by Charles Aznavour, call to ratify the bill criminalizing denial of genocides, including the 1915 Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
“We, the representatives of French intelligence of the Armenian descent, wish to express our support for the adoption of the bill criminalizing denial of the genocides recognized by the French law at the French National Assembly on Dec. 22, 2011.
We are indignant at the threats towards France regarding its decision made against racism, discrimination and denial, the law which protects the victims and raises the level of tolerance in relation to those disasters.
We call on the head of the state, the government of lefts and rights to secure the ratification of the bill at the Senate,” the statement reads, Nouvelles d`Arménie reports.
Charles Aznavour, Simon Abkarian, Serge Avédikian, Robert Gedikian, André Manoukian, Levon Sayan and Alain Terzian are among those who signed the statement.
