Orders for Russian armory export reach almost $50 billion — Putin

Political

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin says the portfolio of orders for export of Russian armory has grown to almost $50 billion.
“Over first six months of the current year, the export of Russian armory made $5.6 billion — quite a figure, and the total portfolio of the orders for export has reached almost $50 billion,” the president told a meeting of the commission on military-technical cooperation.
“It is most important now to develop steadily the entire military-technical cooperation, our existing and promising international relations in this sphere, to develop Russia’s presence in the global market of arms, and thus, no doubt, we shall help our producers to plan extension and re-equipment of enterprises, to offer new high-quality jobs.”

“Russian naval vessel export should grow”
President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia should build up its positions as one of leading suppliers of naval vessels in the world.

“Today naval vessels account for around 15% in the portfolio of export orders of defense and industrial complex,” the president said.
“Market potential of this produce is very big,” Putin said, citing expert assessments that “Countries in the world plan to allocate around 100 billion dollars to reequip their fleets within next few years.”
“Certainly, the level of competition in this segment of the market is very high. Not only traditional strong participants, namely the United States, Germany, Great Britain and France, but also new players who developed licensed production of ships are active here,” the Russian leader admitted.
He finds it necessary to “follow attentively all tendencies in this sphere” and expects from members of the commission “concrete proposals to build up Russian positions as one of leading world suppliers of naval machinery”.
The president noted that “This type of domestic weapons enjoys deserved authority among foreign partners, around 400 ships and submarines produced in Russia are in combat service in 27 armies in the world.” “Our shipbuilders, designers, engineers and workers prove in their work that Russia can design and produce most sophisticated and highly technological produce,” Putin said with confidence.
“For the last five years Russia has become one of leaders in vessel export and we hold 27% of world market,” the head of state recalled.
“Russian submarines, frigates, missile-carrying motorboats, mine sweepers and coastal military systems are in demand in other countries and can compete successfully and, as we witness, compete successfully on the world market in terms of their quality and price,” he noted. Putin gave as an example finalized the repair and reequipping of aircraft carrier Vikramaditya converted from Admiral Gorshkov handed over to India in November 2013.
The president proposed to discuss at the Monday commission’s meeting “how to make military-technical co-operation with foreign countries more efficient, particularly consider separately problems of naval vessel supplies”.
