Negotiations may be resumed if Azerbaijan honors Vienna agreements - Armenian FM
ARCHIVEArmenian FM Edward Nalbandian, in response to a question by MP Naira Zohrabyan, commented on world media reports that the parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict may sign an agreement at a meeting scheduled for June.
Refuting the reports, Mr Nalbandian said that the OSCE Minsk group co-chairs’ agreement was actually what their joint statement contained.
“According to the reports, the next stage of the negotiations was scheduled for June, the venue not mentioned. Possibilities of resuming negotiations will allegedly be discussed. And it is clear resuming the negotiations requires relevant conditions,” Mr Nalbandian said.
He has repeated stated that the conditions in question are not preconditions set by Armenia.
“It is the co-chairs that spoke of conditions. And if the conditions are created, a mechanism and conditions for monitoring will be created, with the office of the co-chair’s personal representative to be expanded and new developments similar to the events in early April to be ruled out. Negotiations will be resumed,” Mr Nalbandian said.
Efforts to organize a meeting with the OSCE co-chairs, with the Armenian and Azerbaijani FMs’ participation, are being made now.
“We may discuss opportunities for resuming the negotiations at the meetings, if the Vienna agreements are properly implemented,” Mr Nalbandian said.
In this case, a higher-level meeting may be organized.
