Iranian President Ahmadinejad faces up to six months in jail or 74 lashes over campaigning violation
IranIranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad faces up to six months in jail or 74 lashes for breaking public fund rules when he accompanied his political ally Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei to presidential candidate registration on Saturday.
The charges are being considered by the Guardian Council, which is vetting more than 680 potential candidates ahead of the presidential poll on June 14.
Ahmadinejad, who has been locked in a long-running feud with the country’s religious leaders, is not allowed to run for a third term by law.
