Armenia deputy FM: We are waiting for Azerbaijan's response

They were political statements to which there was no political reference. Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan told this to reporters Monday—and commenting to the fact that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the proposals made to Azerbaijan regarding the overseeing of each other's weapons and not to attack.

"If there will appropriate positive responses [by Azerbaijan], naturally, the discussions will move to another phase," Kostanyan added.

Regarding the prospects of signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, the Armenian official said: "We [i.e. Armenia] continue to be sincerely interested in the complete normalization of relations with our neighbors and the signing of a peace treaty. You know that on January 4, we sent the Armenian party’s updated version of the text of the respective agreement. Basically, we are waiting for Azerbaijan's response. Yesterday there were announcements that the response will be in a few weeks."

When asked about Russia's intentions to change its ambassador to Armenia, Kostanyan said that he does not have such information.

"The [Armenian] MFA [(Ministry of Foreign Affairs)] has not officially received any writing [in that regard]," he added.

Regarding the appointment of the Armenian ambassador to Russia, since the respective agrément has already been sent, the Armenian deputy FM said: "When there is news, it will be properly informed."

And to the question as to whether Armenia has joined the documents of the recent Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) summit in the Belarusian capital of Minsk—and which the CSTO Secretary General had brought with him to Armenia’s capital of Yerevan, Vahan Kostanyan responded: "They are at the discussion phase."
