The natural increase of the population of Armenia in 2023 exceeded the previous year's indicator by 23.5 percent, making 11,960 people. This is reported by the Statistical Committee of Armenia—and based on the data of the Registry of Civil Acts.

Accordingly, 36,265 babies were born in Armenia in 2023—110 less than in 2022; 19,052 boys and 17,213 girls. Compared to 2022, the number of newborn boys decreased by 184, while the number of girls increased by 74.

In 2023, gender ratio among live births was 110.7 boys per 100 girls, compared to 112.2 in 2022.

The number of stillbirths dropped; 420 compared to 427 last year.

Also last year, 24,305 people died in Armenia, which is 2,387 less than the previous year's figure. A total of 12,567 of the deceased are male and 11,738 are female. In 2022, men also predominated among the deceased.

Past year, the population vitality ratio—i.e. the ratio of births to deaths—was 149.2 percent, while in 2022, it was 136.3 percent.

Compared to the previous year, the number of marriages in Armenia decreased by 588 in 2023. Last year, 16,207 new families were formed in the country. The number of divorces, however, remained unchanged—at 4,525—compared to 2022.

But these statistics do not include the registrations of forcibly displaced Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh recorded in the Registry of Civil Acts in October-December 2023. In particular, this refers to 279 births—in addition, 273 restored birth registrations, 514 deaths, 173 marriages, and 19 divorces.
