The Russian Ministry of Sports will provide its full support in case the All Russian Volleyball Federation will submit a bid for holding the 2018 FIVB (International Volleyball Federation) Men’s World Championship in Russia, Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said on Thursday.
“We will certainly support it [the bid], but the All-Russian Volleyball Federation needs to clearly state its position,” Mutko said. “We [Russia] have all possibilities for hosting the world championship and there is nothing needed to be constructed.”
FIVB President Ary Graca earlier said that the 2018 Men’s World Championship should be hosted by Russia as the country had everything necessary to organize a tournament of such high level.
The 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championship was held in September in Poland and was won by the hosting team, which defeated Brazil 3-1 in the final encounter. The bronze went to Germany, while Russia finished in the 5th place.
