Ukraine's Donetsk republic plans to supply coal to Iran, Turkey, North Africa

The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) plans to supply coal to North African and Middle Eastern countries, head of the department for industry development strategy at the DPR’s leader’s office Yevgeny Lavrenov said on Friday.

"We have standard clients in North African countries, in Iran and Turkey. Plants [in these countries] were built by the Soviet Union. Coal from Donbas is used in processing chains there. We are talking about power plants and metallurgical plants," Lavrenov noted.
"I think that we will be able to jointly solve the issue with deliveries in the nearest future," the Donetsk News Agency quoted Lavrenov as saying.
DPR economic development minister Yevgeniya Samokhina contacted partners in Iran on February 19 and said she can demonstrate concrete proposals on cooperation, he added. "They [Iranian partners] are also under an embargo, so it will be easy for us to understand each other, more so that they need it," Lavrenov stressed.
If an agreement is reached, coal will be delivered to Iran by sea via the Taganrog port in Russia. "There is understanding from the Russian side. We are also in talks on coal delivery with North African companies," Lavrenov concluded.
