Austrian Parliament recognizes Armenian Genocide
WorldAll the six fractions of the Austrian Parliament have just adopted a joint statement on the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide. The Advisor at the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to Austria Ashot Alexanyan has informed “Armenpress” that the statement was officially published at the course of the April 22 session of Austrian Parliament. At the beginning of the session, the representatives of all the forces honored the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims with a minute of silence. According to Alexanyan, the adoption of the joint statement can be considered as the recognition of the Armenian
Genocide by the Austrian Parliament.
The statement clearly defines that the massacre of Armenians in 1915 was a genocide and calls on Turkey to face with its history and recognize the Armenian Genocide. Austria admits its responsibility in the regard of the alliance between the Ottoman Empire and Austria-Hungary during the World War I.
