“Today we are opening a unique and very interesting exhibition, a series of caricatures, which had been established during the Great Patriotic War years. We assume that the first painting was created in August 1941. “Armtag” Telegraph Agency by the example of the Soviet Republics’ capitals, in 1941, established a showcase, where the satirical antifascist posters of the Armenian artists by poets’ texts were represented once a week. Generally, 112 caricatures were created, but today not all of them is presented at the exhibition,” as Armenpress reports, the Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Armenia Amatuni Virabyan noted and added, that during the Great Patriotic war years, every Monday or Tuesday many people gathered near the window to watch the caricature, which caused great emotional feeling in them, which was very important in that brutal war conditions.
In turn, the Director of Armenpress News Agency Aram Ananyan underscored that during the Great Patriotic War, the reporters of “HayHerGorts” took up arms with the hundreds of thousands of the Armenian children. “Today, first and foremost we are talking about the heroic deeds of the journalists, this was a unique form of heroic deed of the journalists. “Armtag” or “HayHerGorts” was the previous name of the Armenpress news agency, which worked for the victory in the Great Patriotic War not only with weapons, but also with the pen and brush of its talented caricaturists and journalists. As the author of the major caricatures and the Head of the creative group Sergey Arootchyan described, that “the brush was pen and the pen was brush”, that is to say, they mocked the defects of the fascism by their acute word and beautiful pictures. The exposing posters were inspiring the Armenian people and strengthen their faith in victory,” Ananyan highlighted and added, the contemporaries prove that the windows of “Armtag” were accepted with exceptional enthusiasm.
