Government to ease energy tariff rise effects to socially needy familiesARCHIVE
The Government of the Republic of Armenia will increase the social benefits of 105,000 socially needy families or 400,000 people to ease the consequences of the rise of the electricity tariff. Armenpress reports that the Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan stated about it at the session of the Government, informing that the Executive Body will allocate about 2,5 billion drams for that purpose. At the same time, the Head of the Government stated that any government, including the Armenia’s, does not want rise of any tariffs, though the Government has to reckon with the objective reality.
During the session, the Prime Minister Abrahamyan made an extensive statement on the rise of the electricity tariff, which we will present later.
Despite the protests, the new electricity tariff was approved at the session of the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia on June 17. The electricity price has increased by 6,93 AMD, reaching 48,78 AMD per 1 kWh. Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC had suggested increasing the electricity price by 17 AMD per 1 kWh.
