Հայաստանի ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի ազգային հանձնաժողովը դատապարտել է  Ադրբեջանի կողմից Մեխակավանի հայկական Սուրբ Մարիամ Աստվածածին եկեղեցին հիմնահատակ վերացնելու փաստը։  Հայաստանի ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի ազգային հանձնաժողովն Ադրբեջանի կողմից իրականացված մշակութային հանցագործության հերթական դեպքը դատապարտող հայտարարություն է տարածել «Թվիթեր»-ի միկրոբլոգում։

«Խստորեն դատապարտում ենք Ադրբեջանի կողմից իրականացված մշակութային հանցագործության հերթական դեպքը։ Ինչպես հաղորդում է BBC-ն, հայկական եկեղեցին ամբողջովին անհետացել է ադրբեջանական վերահսկողության տակ անցնելուց հետո։ Հավելենք, որ այդ նույն եկեղեցին վանդալիզմի էր ենթարկվել ադրբեջանական վերջին ագրեսիայի ընթացքում:

Ադրբեջանական վերահսկողության տակ գտնվող հայկական հուշարձանները ենթարկվում են վանդալիզմի և ոչնչացվում՝ «Իսլամական պետությանը» բնորոշ ձևով»,- ասված է հայտարարության մեջ:

Հանձնաժողովը հրապարակել է նաև ադրբեջանցի զինծառայողների կողմից եկեղեցու պղծման մասին վկայող տեսանյութ՝ նշելով, որ այն ավերումից առաջ նախ ենթարկվել էր վանդալիզմի:
