Արմեն Սարգսյանը դարձավ Հայաստանի Հանրապետության նախագահ, որովհետև, իմ պատկերացումներով, նա ուներ բոլոր հնարավորությունները լինելու Հայաստանի Հանրապետության նախագահ՝ իր ունակություններով, իր գիտելիքներով, իր կարողություններով` արժևորելու այդ ինստիտուտը, որովհետև նորություն էր այդ ինստիտուտը, և նա կարող էր մեծ օգուտ բերել մեր երկրին: Այս մասին կինոռեժիսոր Մհեր Մկրտչյանի հետ զրույցում ասաց ՀՀ երրորդ նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանը:

«Ես վստահ եմ, որ Արմեն Սարգսյան-Սերժ Սարգսյան-Կարեն Կարապետյան եռանկյունին Հայաստանի համար մեծ օգուտներ կբերեր: Բայց, ինչպես ասում են, ոչ ոք իդեալական չէ, և մարդը սովորական պայմաններում, խաղաղ պայմաններում կարող է շատ արդյունավետ գործել, կարող է լինել շատ պատվախնդիր, բարոյական, իսկ իմ խորին համոզմամբ, մարդու էությունը դրսևորվում է էքսցեսների ժամանակ, մարդու էությունը դրսևորվում է կրիտիկական իրավիճակներում, և պատահական չէ, որ այդպիսի իրավիճակներում, օրինակ, պատերազմական իրավիճակներում, շատ երիտասարդ մարդիկ այդ հասակում դառնում են մեծ զորամիավորումների հրամանատարներ, գեներալներ և այլն: Սովորական պայմաններում նրանք չեն կարող դա անել: Եվ այդ նույն պատերազմի ժամանակ շատ մարդիկ, որոնք առաջին հայացքից շատ խրոխտ են, հուժկու են և այլն, դառնում են թուլամորթներ, դառնում են դիրք լքողներ և այլն: Ցավոք սրտի, այդ դժվար իրավիճակում Արմեն Սարգսյանը չկարողացավ իրեն դրսևորել՝ չկարողացավ  դրսևորել, որովհետև գտնվում էր, կարծում եմ, շատ նսեմացված վիճակում: Նրան, բնականաբար, փորձեցին ենթարկեցնել …»,- ասաց նա:

Սերժ Սարգսյանը նաև պատասխանեց հարցին` Արմեն Սարգսյանն ունի՞ բրիտանական քաղաքացիություն, թե՞ ոչ:

«Ես կարծում եմ, որ ոչ, որովհետև ոչ միայն նրա համար, որ ես իրեն ուղիղ եմ հարցրել, և ինքն ասել է, որ վաղուց հրաժարվել է բրիտանական քաղաքացիությունից, այլ նաև մեր պատկան մարմիններից ես որևէ ահազանգ այդ մասով չեմ ստացել: Դե հիմա, եթե ինչ-որ մարդիկ այլ կերպ են մտածում, բա ինչո՞ւ այդ մասին չեն հայտարարում: Կամ, եթե այդպիսի բան է եղել, ինչո՞ւ այսօրվա իշխանություններն այդ փաստը մեջտեղ չեն բերում ոչ թե գոնե Արմեն Սարգսյանին կշտամբելու, այլ ինձ կշտամբելու համար»,- ասաց նա:
