Ֆրանսիան կդիտարկի Հայաստանի կողմից պաշտպանության ոլորտում աջակցության վերաբերյալ դիմումները, սակայն նաև պետք է հաշվի առնել այն, որ Հայաստանը և Ֆրանսիան միևնույն ռազմական ալյանսների մաս չեն կազմում:  Էրեբունու հնագիտական պեղումներն ավարտելու կապակցությամբ տեղի ունեցած ասուլիսի ժամանակ այս մասին ասաց Հայաստանում Ֆրանսիայի դեսպան Ժոնաթան Լաքոտը:

«Ընդհանուր առմամբ մեր նպատակը ոչ թե ապագա ինչ-որ պատերազմի պատրաստվելն է, այլ պատերազմից խուսափելն է, որովհետև, կածում եմ, որ տարածաշրջանում առկա խնդիրները չպետք է ունենան ուժային լուծում`  Ղարաբաղի հարցը, հայ-ադրբեջանական սահմանի հարցը պետք է լուծվեն միայն բանակցային ճանապարհով: Ցանկացած այլընտրանք տանելու է փակուղի»,- ասաց Լաքոթը:

Անդրադառնալով Ֆրանսիայի նախագահ Էմանուել Մակրոնի Հայաստան հնարավոր այցին, դեսպանն ասաց, որ իսկապես 2018 թվականին Ֆրանկոֆոնիայի գագաթնաժողովի ժամանակ նա պարտավորվել է վերադառնալ Հայաստան:

«Այս պահի դրությամբ ոչ մի հստակ ամսաթիվ չկա: Բայց, ընդհանուր առմամբ կարող եմ ասել, որ նախագահ Մակրոնը այց կկատարի այն ժամանակ, երբ այցը օգտակար կլինի տարածաշրջանում քաղաքական գործընթացներին աջակցելու համար: Այդ պահին պարզ կտեսնենք, թե ինչ փաստաթուղթ կարող է ստորագրվել Հայաստանի և Ֆրանսիայի միջև»,- ասաց Լաքոթը՝ անդրադառնալով կողմերի միջև որևէ փաստաթղթի ստորագրման հնարավորության մասին հարցին:
