Շաբաթ օրը՝ օգոստոսի 14֊ին, 7,2 մագնիտուդ ուժգնությամբ երկրաշարժ է տեղի ունեցել Հայիթիի հարավ-արևմուտքում, որի հետևանքով զոհվել է առնվազն 304 մարդ և վիրավորվել՝ 1800 մարդ, հաղորդում է Associated Press-ը:

ԱՄՆ Երկրաբանական ծառայության տվյալներով՝ երկրաշարժի էպիկենտրոնը գտնվել է մայրաքաղաք Պորտ-օ-Պրենսից մոտ 125 կմ դեպի արևմուտք, իսկ կիսագնդի ամենաաղքատ երկրներում լայնածավալ ավերածություններ են գրանցվել, քանի որ տեղի է ունեցել արևադարձային փոթորիկ:

Հայիթիի Քաղաքացիական պաշտպանության գործակալությունը թվիթերյան էջում գրել է 304 զոհի մասին, որոնց մեծ մասը: Փրկարարներին ու անցորդներին հաջողվել է փլատակների տակից շատերին դուրս բերել անվտանգ տարածք: Գործակալությունը հայտնել է, որ վիրավորները դեռ տեղափոխվում են հիվանդանոցներ:

Վարչապետ Արիել Հենրին մեկամսյա արտակարգ դրություն է հայտարարել ամբողջ երկրի համար և ասել, որ միջազգային օգնություն չի խնդրի, մինչև վնասի մասին հայտնի չլինի: Նա ասել է, որ որոշ քաղաքներ գրեթե ամբողջությամբ ավերվել են, և կառավարությունը մարդիկ ունի առափնյա Լե Կվեյ քաղաքում, որոնք կօգնեն պլանավորել և համակարգել օգնությունը:

«Ամենակարևորը փլատակներից հնարավորինս շատ մարդկանց դուրս բերելն է: Մենք իմացանք, որ տեղի հիվանդանոցները ծանրաբեռնված են վիրավորներով», - ասել է Հենրին:

«Կարիքները հսկայական են: Մենք պետք է հոգ տանք վիրավորների մասին, ինչպես նաև տրամադրենք սնունդ, օգնություն, ժամանակավոր կացարան և հոգեբանական աջակցություն», - ասել է նա:

Հաղորդվում է, որ հիվանդանոցները գերծանրաբեռնված են, քանի որ Հայիթին պայքարում է համաճարակի դեմ և միջոցներ չունի երկրաշարժից տուժածներին օգնելու համար: Անցյալ ամիս 11 միլիոն բնակչություն ունեցող երկիրը ստացել է ԱՄՆ-ի կողմից նվիրաբերված կորոնավիրուսային պատվաստանյութի առաջին խմբաքանակը՝ ՄԱԿ -ի ցածր եկամուտ ունեցող երկրների ծրագրի միջոցով:

Երկրաշարժը տեղի է ունեցել նաև նախագահ Ժովնել Մոիզի սպանությունից ընդամենը մեկ ամիս անց ՝ երկիրը թողնելով քաղաքական քաոսի մեջ:
