Microsoft ընկերության հիմնադիր Բիլ Գեյթսը կարծում է, որ աշխարհը դեռեւս պատշաճ ջանքեր չի գործադրում հնարավոր նոր համավարակին նախապատրաստվելու համար, եւ դա տագնապ է առաջացնում: Այս մասին նա հայտարարել է The Wall Street Journal թերթում հրապարակված հարցազրույցում:

«Ես մի փոքր մտահոգված եմ, որ [հնարավոր նոր] համավարակին նախապատրաստմանը ավելի պակաս ուշադրություն է դարձվում, քան ակնկալում էի», - ասել է Գեյթսը:

Նրա կարծիքով՝ նման պատրաստվածությունը պետք է ներառի 100 օրվա ընթացքում պատվաստանյութ ստեղծելու ունակությունը եւ արտադրական բազայի առկայությունը, որը հնարավոր կդարձնի առաջիկա 100 օրերի ընթացքում այս պատվաստանյութի արտադրությունը գլոբալ կարիքներին բավարարող ծավալներով: Դրա համար, ինչպես նշել է Գեյթսը, անհրաժեշտ է ավելի շատ միջոցներ ներդնել ինչպես ազգային առողջապահական համակարգերի զարգացման, այնպես էլ պատվաստանյութերի արտադրության մեջ, փոխանցել է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:

«Այս խնդրի միակ իրական լուծումը 100 օրվա ընթացքում ամբողջ աշխարհի համար պատվաստանյութեր արտադրելու ունակ ձեռնարկությունների առկայությունն է: Եվ դա հնարավոր է», - ասել է նա:

Գեյթսը նախագահ Ջո Բայդենի վարչակազմի կողմից ներկայացված՝ համավարակի պատրաստվածության ապահովման համար 65 միլիարդ դոլարի համալիր միջոցառումների իրականացումը համարել է քայլ ճիշտ ուղղությամբ, սակայն շեշտել իրական ֆինանսավորման անհրաժեշտությունը: «Մենք պետք է ձգտենք [այս միջոցառումների] իրականացմանը», - հայտարարել է նա:
