Պաշտոնական այցով Վատիկանում գտնվող՝ Հայաստանի Հանրապետության նախագահ Արմեն Սարգսյանը հանդիպել է Սուրբ Աթոռի պետքարտուղար կարդինալ Պիետրո Պարոլինի հետ: Հանդիպմանը մասնակցել է նաև պետությունների հետ հարաբերությունների քարտուղար արք․ Փոլ Ռիչարդ Գալագերը: Այս մասին հայտնում են նախագահի աշխատակազմից։

Հանրապետության նախագահը ևս մեկ անգամ ընդգծել է Հայաստանի և Սուրբ Աթոռի միջպետական հարաբերությունների շարունակական զարգացումը` կարևորելով նաև պետքարտուղարի նշանակալի ներդրումն այդ գործում: «Մենք բարձր ենք գնահատում անցած տարի հայ ժողովրդին պատուհասած պատերազմի ընթացքում և դրանից հետո Սրբազան քահանայապետի հնչեցրած ուղերձները, ինչպես նաև մարդասիրական օգնությունն Աշոցքի հիվանդանոցին»,-նշել է նախագահ Սարգսյանը:

Նախագահը վերահաստատել է Սուրբ Աթոռի հետ միջպետական հարաբերություններն առավել խորացնելու՝ Հայաստանի շահագրգռությունն ու հանձնառությունը՝ նշելով, որ այդ հարաբերությունները մշտապես աչքի են ընկել բարձր քաղաքական երկխոսությամբ և հիմնված են ոչ միայն քրիստոնեական արժեքների, այլև ընդհանուր պատմական և հոգևոր ժառանգության, ժամանակակից աշխարհի մարտահրավերների վերաբերյալ համանման մոտեցումների վրա:

Հայաստանի նախագահը ողջունել է Երևանում Առաքելական նվիրակություն հիմնելու՝ Սրբազան քահանայապետի որոշումը, որը պաշտոնապես կբացվի շուտով և որը մեկ անգամ ևս փաստում է Հայաստան-Սուրբ Աթոռ միջպետական կապերը զարգացնելու և համագործակցությունը խորացնելու երկուստեք հանձնառությունը:

Նախագահ Սարգսյանը և կարդինալ Պարոլինը խոսել են նաև մշակութային փոխգործակցության մասին: Զրուցակիցներն ընդգծել են Հռոմի կաթոլիկ, Հայաստանյայց առաքելական և Հայ կաթողիկե եկեղեցիների միջև գոյություն ունեցող եղբայրական հարաբերություններն ու ամուր կապը:
