Տոկիոյի Օլիմպիական խաղերի բրոնզե մեդալակիր, աշխարհի կրկնակի բրոնզե մեդալակիր, Եվրոպայի կրկնակի չեմպիոն Հովհաննես Բաչկովը դուրս եկավ Բելգրադում անցկացվոող բռնցքամարտի աշխարհի առաջնության քառորդ եզրափակիչ:

Հայաստանի հավաքականի ավագը 63.5 կգ քաշայինների  1/8-րդ եզրափակիչում մրցեց Իտալիայի ներկայացուցիչ Ջիանլուիջի Մալանգայի հետ եւ վստահ հաղթանակ տարավ 3:2  հաշվով:

Առաջին ռաունդը Հովհաննես Բաչկովի համար լարված ստացվեց: Մրցակիցը պարբերաբար ձեռքերով փակում էր Բաչկովի գրոհներն, ինչին ռինգի մրցավարը չէր արձագանքում: Լարված պայքարում մրցավարները միավորների առավելությունը տվեցին Հայաստանի ներկայացուցիչին:

Երկրորդ ռաունդում Բաչկովն ավելացրեց ճնշումը եւ հարվաշածարերով մրցակցին հակագրոհի հնարավորություն չէր տալիս: Երկրորդ ռաունդի վերջնամասում Հովհաննես Բաչկովը նոկդաունի ենթարկեց Մալանգային: Այս ռաունդում մրցավարները միավորների առավելությունը տվեցին Հովհաննես Բաչկովին:

Երրորդ ռաունդում իտալացի բռնցքամարտիկը գրեթե միայն պաշտպանվում էր եւ հնարավորինս խուսափում Բաչկովի հետ մերձամարտի գնալուց:

28-ամյա գյումրեցի բռնցքամարտիկը պայքարը սկսել է 1/16 եզրափակիչից, որտեղ տպավորիչ հաղթանակ է տարել ադրբեջանցի Մալիկ Հասանովի նկատմամբ:
