Հակառակ նրա պնդումին Էրդողանին Նախագահ Ռոբերտ Քոչարյանի պատասխանը գաղտնի չի պահվել ու նույն ժամանակ հրապարակվել է մամուլում:

Դա նույնիսկ տպարգված է Թեհրանի «Ալիք» օրաթերթի 2005 թվականի ապրիլի 28-ի համարի առաջին էջում, հղում կատարելով «Երկիր» օրաթերթին:

Իսկ նամակի բովանդակությունն առանց բացատրության:

«Հարգելի պրն վարչապետ, ստացա Ձեր նամակը: Իսկապես որպես հարեւաններ մենք պետք է փորձենք ուղիներ որոնել այժմ եւ ապագայում համերաշխ ապրելու համար: Այդ իսկ պատճառով հենց սկզբից մենք առաջարկել ենք հաստատել դիվանագիտական հարաբերություններ, բացել սահմանները եւ երկխոսություն սկսել երկու երկրների ու ժողովուրդների միջեւ»:

Աշխարհում, մասնավորապես եվրոպական մայրցամաքում, կան հարեւան երկրներ, որոնք ունեցել են դժվարին անցյալ, որի շուրջը տարակարծիք են: Սակայն դա նրանց չի խանգարում ունենալ բաց սահմաններ, բնական հարաբերություններ, դիվանագիտական կապեր, ներկայացուցիչներ միմյանց մայրաքաղաքներում, եւ այդ բոլորով հանդերձ զուգահեռաբար քննարկել վիճելի հարցերը:

«Անցյալին անդրադառնալու Ձեր առաջարկը չի կարող արդյունավետ լինել, եթե չի անդրադառնում ներկային ու ապագային: Արդյունավետ երկխոսության մեջ ներգրավվելու համար մեզ անհրաժեշտ է ստեղծել նպաստավոր եւ համապատասխան քաղաքական միջավայր: Երկկողմ հարաբերությունների զարգացման պատասխանատվությունը կրում են կառավարությունները, եւ մենք իրավասու չենք դա լիազորել պատմաբաններին: Ուստի մենք առաջարկել ենք եւ կրկին առաջարկում ենք առանց նախապայմանների մեր երկու երկրների միջեւ հաստատել բնական հարաբերություններ»:
