Եվրոպական հարավային աստղադիտարանը (ESO) եւ Իրադարձությունների հորիզոնի աստղադիտակը (Event Horizon Telescope, EHT) ներկայացրել են գերզանգվածային սեւ խոռոչի առաջին լուսանկարը Ծիր Կաթին գալակտիկայի կենտրոնում, որտեղ գտնվում է Երկիրը: Պատկերը ներկայացվել է բացմանը նվիրված մամուլի ասուլիսում, հայտնում է Lenta-ն։

Այս վայրում սեւ խոռոչի գոյության մասին ենթադրություններն ի հայտ են եկել 20-րդ դարի վերջին, երբ աստղագետները հետեւել էին աստղերի տարօրինակ շարժմանը օբյեկտի շուրջը, եւ 2020 թվականին այս հայտնագործության համար Նոբելյան մրցանակ էր շնորհվել։ Տիեզերական օբյեկտը հնարավոր է եղել լուսանկարել «Իրադարձությունների հորիզոն աստղադիտակ»-ի ռադիո եւ միլիմետրային ալիքների աստղադիտարանների գլոբալ ցանցի միջոցով։

Սեւ խոռոչը, որի շուրջը պտտվում է ամբողջ գալակտիկան, գտնվում է Արեգակից 27 000 լուսային տարի հեռավորությամբ եւ կապված է Աղեղնավոր A* ռադիոաղբյուրի հետ։ Տիեզերական այս հատվածի դիտարկումները տեղի են ունեցել դեռեւս 2017 թվականին, սակայն ստացված տվյալների մշակման համար մոտ հինգ տարի է պահանջվել, քանի որ ռադիոաղբյուրի շուրջ գազի պայծառությունն ու կառուցվածքը չափազանց արագ են փոխվել:

2022 թվականի ապրիլին գիտնականները հայտնաբերել են սեւ խոռոչներ, որոնք կլանման բացթողման արդյունքում արտամղված նյութն օգտագործում են սեփական զանգվածը մեծացնելու համար: Այս ուսումնասիրությունը մեզ թույլ է տվել իմանալ, թե ինչպես են ոչ մեծ սեւ խոռոչներից միջին չափի սեւ խոռոչներ ձեւավորվում:
