ՆԱՏՕ-ի ռազմական կոմիտեի նախագահ, ծովակալ Ռոբ Բաուերը հայտարարել է, որ դաշինքը պատերազմի մեջ չէ Ռուսաստանի հետ՝ չնայած Ուկրաինային սպառազինության մատակարարմանը եւ նրան ֆինանսական օգնության տրամադրմանը։

«ՆԱՏՕ-ն պատերազմի մեջ չէ Ռուսաստանի հետ։ Պետք է այս մասին շատ հստակ հայտարարեմ։ Եթե Ռուսաստանը հարձակվեր մեր անդամ երկրներից մեկի վրա, շատ պարզ կլիներ, եւ մենք փորձում ենք հնարավորինս պարզ հասկացնել Ռուսաստանին, որ մենք կպաշտպանենք մեր դաշնակցի տարածքի յուրաքանչյուր թիզը: Այդ ժամանակ հակամարտություն կլինի Ռուսաստանի եւ ՆԱՏՕ-ի միջեւ։ Բայց մինչ այդ ՆԱՏՕ-ն չի պատերազմում Ռուսաստանի հետ»,- պետական ERR պորտալին տված հարցազրույցում ասել է Բաուերը:

Ծովակալի խոսքով՝ ՆԱՏՕ-ն երկար ժամանակ Ռուսաստանին դիտարկում էր որպես գործընկերոջ, որի հետ տարաձայնություններ կային, բայց դա սպառնալիք չէր համարում։ «Այժմ Ռուսաստանը իրենից ուղղակի սպառնալիք է ներկայացնում։ Դաշինքի վերջին ռազմավարական հայեցակարգում Մադրիդում մենք ձեւակերպել ենք, որ Ռուսաստանն է հիմնական եւ անմիջական սպառնալիքը»,- ընդգծել է Բաուերը։

Նա նշել է, որ այժմ ՆԱՏՕ-ի համար կարեւոր է հասնել նրան, որ Ուկրաինան շարունակի պայքարը։ «Որպեսզի մենք պատրաստ լինենք մեր տարածքում, եթե ռուսները պատրաստվեն ինչ-որ բան կազմակերպել ՆԱՏՕ-ի դեմ։ Կարծում եմ՝ սա լավ թեստ է այս պահին՝ համոզվելու համար, որ ամեն ինչ տեղի է ունենում ժամանակին, որ մենք պաշտպանում ենք Ուկրաինային այնքան ժամանակ, որքան անհրաժեշտ է»,- ասել է Բաուերը։
