«Հրապարակ» թերթը գրում է. «Իշխանական աղբյուրները պնդում են, որ պաշտպանության նախարարի պաշտոնից Սուրեն Պապիկյանին ազատելու հարցը որոշված է, այժմ քննարկվում է իրականացման մեխանիզմը: Այն, թե ուր է գնալու Պապիկյանը, եւ ով է նրան փոխարինելու։

Չնայած մամուլում գրվեց, որ թեկնածուն ՔՊ-ական պատգամավոր, պաշտպանության հանձնաժողովի նախագահ Անդրանիկ Քոչարյանն է, սակայն այդ լուրերը, ըստ ամենայնի, հենց ինքն էլ տարածում է: Մեր աղբյուրներն ասում են, որ Փաշինյանը հակված է նշանակել ԱԱԾ տնօրեն Արմեն Աբազյանին, ով պատերազմից հետո տարբեր ֆորմատներով՝ թե՛ գերիների փոխանակման, թե՛ սահմանազատման հարցերով ադրբեջանցի պաշտոնյաների հետ բանակցել է եւ լեզու գտել նրանց հետ, ինչն ամենագնահատելի գործոններից է Փաշինյանի համար»:
