52-ամյա Վիկ Հոքն աշխատել է որպես վարորդ և լոգիստիկայի օգնական էլեկտրոնիկա արտադրող ընկերությունում: Տղամարդը փորձաշրջան էր անցնում ընկերությունում, սակայն երկու ամիս անց ազատվել է աշխատանքից: Այս փաստից վրդովված՝ նա գնացել է խանութ, կողպեք գնել ու նախկին գործընկերներին փակել գրասենյակում։

Թակարդում հայտնվելով՝ ընկերության աշխատակիցները փականագործ են կանչել՝ օգնելու իրենց դուրս գալ: Տեսահսկման տեսախցիկների շնորհիվ հնարավոր է եղել պարզել, որ հենց Վիկն է կախել կողպեքը. նրա դեմ հայտարարություն է ներկայացվել ոստիկանություն։ Ինքը՝ տղամարդը, պնդում է, որ կարծել է, թե բոլոր աշխատողները գրասենյակից դուրս են եկել ճաշի։

Հոքին մեղադրել են անօրինական կերպով ազատությունից զրկելու, ինչպես նաև նախկին գործընկերոջը վիրավորական հաղորդագրություններ ուղարկելու մեջ։ Դատարանի որոշմամբ սինգապուրցին տուգանվել է 3000 դոլարով։
