Very rare Camaro is up for auction

A very rare Yenko Turbo Z sports car based on the Chevrolet Camaro will be auctioned. It is based on a modified Camaro Z/28.

This car up for auction is one of 19 made and is equipped with the rarer and more powerful Stage II modification package; only three such cars were built, Motor.ru reports.

The Stage II modification went on sale for $17,500—despite the fact that the base Stage I version cost from $11,300, and the regular Camaro Z/28 cost just over eight thousand dollars.

While the regular top-of-the-line Camaro Z/28 was equipped with a 175-horsepower engine that passed the quarter mile in 17.1 seconds, the Yenko Turbo Z had a nearly 250-horsepower engine and passed the quarter mile in 14.52 seconds. Moreover, the fuel consumption of these cars was quite affordable: only 13.1 liters per 100 kilometers during city driving, and about 10.7 liters on the highway.

This model is notable also for being car dealer and racing driver Don Yenko's last project for Chevrolet. It was introduced in 1981, and just a year later, the American manufacturer and the tuner severed their relationship after almost 50 years of collaboration.

This very rare project of Don Yenko will be auctioned at Mecum's; the price of the lot, according to preliminary calculations, will be 60-80 thousand dollars.

The Chevrolet Camaro itself has also become history; in mid-December 2023, this American automaker released the last sample of this model.
