Meeting of heads of state in Munich is positive development: Ruben Rubinyan

Ruben Rubinyan, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Special Representative of Armenia on the issue of relations with Turkey, Ruben Rubinyan participated in the panel discussion of the Diplomacy Forum held in Antalya, Turkey.

According to him, after the events of Nagorno-Karabakh last year, Armenia and Azerbaijan did not have physical meetings at the level of leaders and heads of foreign relations departments, but, nevertheless, the sides continued to exchange their comments on the draft peace treaty. The meeting of the heads of state in Munich is a positive development.

He noted that over the past years, Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed on the basic principles of the peace treaty on various platforms: the reaffirmation of the mutual recognition of each other's territorial integrity based on the Almaty Declaration, delimitation and the further demarcation of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan based on the same declaration, and based on the principles of sovereignty, jurisdiction, equality and reciprocity of the countries on the opening of regional communications.

According to him, peace will become visible and achievable when the parties follow these principles. According to Rubinyan, Yerevan is ready to move in that direction, but the Azerbaijani side did not show eagerness in this matter.
