«Ժողովուրդ» օրաթերթը գրում է․ «Հայաստանի Հանրապետությունն այսօր նշում է Անկախության օրը: 1991 թվականի սեպտեմբերի 21-ի հանրաքվեում Հայաստանի ժողովուրդը ձայների ճնշող մեծամասնությամբ քվեարկեց ԽՍՀՄ-ի կազմից դուրս գալու եւ անկախ պետություն ստեղծելու օգտին։ 1991 թվականի հենց այս օրը կազմակերպվեց հանրաքվե, որին մասնակցեց Հայաստանի բնակչության ավելի քան 95 տոկոսը. իսկ հանրաքվեի մասնակիցների 99 տոկոսից ավելին «Այո՛» ասաց անկախությանը, «Այո՛» պատասխանեց՝ «Համաձա՞յն եք, որ Հայաստանը լինի անկախ, ժողովրդավարական պետություն ԽՍՀՄ կազմից դուրս» հարցին: 2 օր անց արդեն Հայաստանի Գերագույն խորհուրդը, հիմք ընդունելով հանրաքվեի արդյունքները, հռչակեց Հայաստանի Հանրապետությունն անկախ պետություն:

Անկախության հռչակումից 33 տարի անց Մայր Հայաստանը իր անկախությունը նշում է առանց հայկական երկրորդ պետության, դեռ ավելին՝ Հայաստանի ինքնիշխան տարածքում Ադրբեջանի ապօրինի ներխուժման պայմաններում:

«Ժողովուրդ» օրաթերթը տեղեկացավ, որ այսօր Երեւանի վարչական շրջաններում համերգ-միջոցառումներ կլինեն: Պարգեւներ, կոչումներ կշնորհվեն տարբեր բնագավառների ներկայացուցիչների:

Հիմնական միջոցառումը լինելու է երեկոյան. Հայաստանի պատմության թանգարանում կբացվի «Մայր աստվածություն. Անահիտից Մարիամ» խորագրով միջազգային ցուցահանդեսը, որի շրջանակում Հայաստանում առաջին անգամ կցուցադրվեն Անահիտ դիցուհու հայտնի բրոնզե արձանի գլուխն ու ձեռքը, որոնք պահպանվում են հեղինակավոր Բրիտանական թանգարանում։ Սակայն որեւէ այլախոհ, որեւէ ընդդիմադիր, հրավիրված չէ այդ միջոցառումներին: «Ժողովուրդ» օրաթերթին վարչապետի խոսնակ Նազելի Բաղդասարյանը հայտնեց, որ Նիկոլ Փաշինյանը մասնակցելու է անկախության տոնի միջոցառումներին»:
