Armenia wants to delay custom duties abolishment with EU
VideoArmenia is negotiating with the European Union to delay the abolishment of customs duties on a number of European goods for a period of three to seven years, and on certain agricultural products for a longer period, Deputy Minister of Economy Garegin Melkonian said, Armenianreport wrote.
"The purpose is very clear. The transition would not be very sharp from the point of view of protecting the interests of local producers and we would be able to provide an increase of production capacity during these years," he told journalists before the opening of the fifth round of negotiations between the EU and Armenia on the agreement 'On the deep and comprehensive free trade area' in Yerevan.
According to Melkonian, a small list of products around which the negotiations are held includes agricultural and food processing goods as well as those industrial goods that are already produced or have the potential for production in Armenia.
The deputy minister also pointed out that VAT is not included in the package agreement 'On a deep and comprehensive free trade area' and will be collected by Armenia and the European Union as before.
