Stone-laying ceremony of Nicholas II church held in Moscow
Science and cultureTo mark the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty this year, Moscow has witnessed the laying of the foundation of the first church in honor of Nicholas II and his family.
A capsule has been placed into the foundation of the church, containing soil from the place where in 1918 the remains of the royal family were destroyed.
This was a gift from the monks of the monastery of the Holy Royal Martyrs in Sverdlovsk region (Urals), as a sign of spiritual unity.
The area of the capital where the new church will be built still bears the name of Voikov - one of the central figures that perpetrated the massacre of the royal family.
