Memorial ceremonies held in Berlin
ԱշխարհWreaths and natural flowers have been put at the memorials in honour of the Soviet liberator-soldiers in the Treptower Park and in the central Tiergarten District in Berlin.
Solemn ceremonies were held there on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of Victory over fascism.
The Great Patriotic War veterans, members of the anti-fascist Resistance movement, members of the Russian embassy personnel in Germany, representatives of political parties and public organizations met there to commemorate Soviet soldiers.
There is a memorial complex in the centre of the Treptower Park in the centre of which one can see the bronze- cast figure of the Soviet soldier holding a German girl, whom he saved, in his hands.
We see him cutting a swastika with his sword.
The remains of more than 7,000 Soviet soldiers out of 20,000 soldiers are buried there.
All of them were killed in the battles for the liberation of Berlin at the very end of the war.
This memorial was created by the Russian masters - sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich and architect Yakov Belopolsky.
