About $35 billion to be earmarked for Dubai’s Al Maktoum airport expansion project

Dubai authorities will allocate 128 billion dirhams (approx. $34.8 billion) to the construction of a new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport in the southern part of the city. This was announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, Prime Minister of the UAE.

"Today, we approved the designs for the new passenger terminals at Al Maktoum International Airport, and commencing construction of the building at a cost of AED 128 billion as part of Dubai Aviation Corporation's strategy," the UAE prime minister wrote on X—formerly Twitter—on Sunday.

“Al Maktoum International Airport will enjoy the world's largest capacity, reaching up to 260 million passengers. It will be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport, and all operations at Dubai International Airport will be transferred to it in the coming years. The airport will accommodate 400 aircraft gates and feature five parallel runways,” the UAE prime minister added.

The main aviation hub of the Emirate of Dubai  is the Dubai International Airport, where the Emirates airline is headquartered. According to the 2023 results, this airport has served 87 million passengers, made more than 416 thousand flights, and transported 1.81 million tons of luggage.
