Օձերը սովորաբար դուրս են գալիս իրենց բներից առավոտյան և երեկոյան, իսկ ցերեկային ժամերին պատսպարվում են առավել հով վայրերում։ Ընդհանուր առմամբ օձերը թաքնված կենսակերպ են վարում։

Օձերը նախահարձակ լինող կենդանիներ չեն։ Դրանք կարող են հարձակվել միայն այն դեպքում, երբ վտանգ են զգում կամ երբ մարդը փորձում է վնասել կենդանուն։
