Հանրապետության նախագահ Արմեն Սարգսյանն այցելել է ՀՀ Զինված ուժերի գլխավոր շտաբ, որտեղ հանդիպում է ԶՈՒ գլխավոր շտաբ պետ Օնիկ Գասպարյանի հետ:

Փետրվարի 25-ին նախագահի աշխատակազմը հայտարարություն էր տարածել, որում ասվում էր․

«Հանրապետության նախագահի աշխատակազմը ՀՀ զինված ուժերի գլխավոր շտաբի պետ Օնիկ Գասպարյանին պաշտոնից ազատելու առաջարկությունը ստացել է ՀՀ զինված ուժերի բարձրագույն հրամանատարական կազմի հայտարարությունից հետո:

Համաձայն ՀՀ Սահմանադրության, Հանրապետության նախագահն ունի եռօրյա ժամկետ իր դիրքորոշումն արտահայտելու համար: Նախագահը, ելնելով պետական մարմինների բնականոն գործունեությունն ապահովելու անհրաժեշտությունից, մինչ օրս սկզբունքային առարկություններ չի ունեցել պաշտոնատար անձանց նշանակման և ազատման հարցում:

Սակայն, ռազմական դրության իրավիճակում, առկա ճգնաժամի պայմաններում, վերը նշված հայտարարությունից հետո, զինված ուժերի գլխավոր շտաբի պետին պաշտոնից ազատումը հերթական կադրային փոփոխություն չէ՝ հաշվի առնելով, որ ՀՀ Սահմանադրության համաձայն, Հայաստանի Հանրապետության զինված ուժերն ապահովում են Հայաստանի Հանրապետության պաշտպանությունը, անվտանգությունը, տարածքային ամբողջականությունը և սահմանների անձեռնմխելիությունը:

Ստեղծված իրավիճակում որևէ մեկը որևէ ձևով չպետք է փորձի նախագահին ներքաշել քաղաքական գործընթացների մեջ: Անթույլատրելի է նախագահի նկատմամբ ճնշման որևէ փորձ:

Հանրապետության նախագահը որևէ մեկի կամ որևէ քաղաքական ուժի կողմից չէ, երբևէ չի եղել և չի պատրաստվում լինել: Նախագահն իր գործառույթներն իրականացնելիս առաջնորդվում է բացառապես պետության ու ժողովրդի շահերով:

Նախագահ Սարգսյանը կարևորում է կայունությունն ու հանդուրժողականության մթնոլորտը երկրում և շարունակելու է ամեն ինչ անել այդ ուղղությամբ՝ համոզված լինելով, որ խնդիրները պետք է լուծվեն երկխոսության, և ոչ թե առճակատման միջոցով:

Նախագահն այս պահի առաջնահերթ խնդիրն է համարում երկրում առկա լարվածության թուլացումն ու իրավիճակի անցնցում հանգուցալուծումը, և նրա բոլոր գործողություններն ուղղված են դրան»:
