Ուկրաինայի նախագահ Վոլոդիմիր Զելենսկին պատասխանել է Ռուսաստանի առաջնորդ Վլադիմիր Պուտինի այն պնդումներին, թե ուկրաինացիներն ու ռուսները մեկ ժողովուրդ են՝ արհեստականորեն բաժանված նորագույն պատմության մեջ։ Զելենսկիին հարցազրույց է տվել «Ինտերֆաքս-Ուկրաինա» լրատվական գործակալությունը, որի լրագրողը խնդրել է նրան պատասխանել Պուտինի՝ «մենք մեկ ամբողջություն ենք» արտահայտությանը։ «Եկեք վերջապես հասկանանք դա: Մենք հաստատ մեկ ժողովուրդ չենք: Այո, մենք շատ ընդհանուր բաներ ունենք: Մենք ունենք պատմության ընդհանուր հատված, հիշողություն, հարևանություն, հարազատներ, ընդհանուր հաղթանակ ֆաշիզմի դեմ և ընդհանուր ողբերգություններ: Այո, այս ամենը չափազանց կարևոր է, և մենք հիշում ենք դրա մասին: Բայց մենք, կրկնում եմ մեկ անգամ ևս, մեկ ժողովուրդ չենք: Եթե մենք լինեինք մեկ ժողովուրդ, ապա Մոսկվայում, ամենայն հավանականությամբ, ուկրաինական դրամը կշրջանառվեր, և Պետդումայի վրա դեղին-կապույտ դրոշ կծածանվեր: Այսպիսով՝ երկու երկրներից յուրաքանչյուրն ունի իր սեփական ճանապարհը», - հավելել է Զելենսկին:

Հիշեցնենք, որ ՌԴ նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինը լրագրողի այն հարցին, թե ինչու Ուկրաինան ներառված չէ «անբարյացակամ երկրների ցուցակում», պատասխանել էր․«Ես չեմ կարծում, որ ուկրաինացի ժողովուրդը անբարյացակամ է, ոչ, մենք մեկ ամբողջություն ենք։ Իսկ ահա Ուկրաինայի այսօրվա ղեկավարությունը ակնհայտորեն անբարյացակամ է մեզ համար»:
