Շվեդիայի արտաքին գործերի նախարարության ղեկավար Թոբիաս Բիլստրյոմը հայտարարել է, որ Ղուրանի այրման հետ կապված գործողությունների ֆոնին դադարեցվել է ՆԱՏՕ-ին անդամակցելու գործընթացը։ Նա հույս է հայտնել, որ ՆԱՏՕ-ի երկրների արտգործնախարարությունների հուլիսին Վիլնյուսում կայանալիք գագաթնաժողովում հնարավոր կլինի Թուրքիայի հետ պայմանավորվել դաշինքին միանալու մասին։

«Վերջին մի քանի շաբաթների իրադարձությունները ժամանակավորապես կանգնեցրին ՆԱՏՕ-ին միանալու գործընթացը... Իհարկե, մենք անհամբեր սպասում ենք Վիլնյուսի գագաթնաժողովին», - Expressen թերթին ասել է Թոբիաս Բիլստրյոմը։ ՆԱՏՕ-ի հաջորդ գագաթնաժողովը տեղի կունենա Վիլնյուսում 2023 թվականի հուլիսի 11-12-ը։

Հունվարի 21-ին դանիացի քաղաքական գործիչ Ռասմուս Փալուդանը (նա նաև շվեդական քաղաքացիություն ունի) Ստոկհոլմում Թուրքիայի դեսպանատան դիմաց այրել է Ղուրանը։ Մեկ շաբաթ անց նա նաև Կոպենհագենում Թուրքիայի դեսպանատան առջեւ է Ղուրան այրել։ Aftonbladet-ին տված հարցազրույցում ակտիվիստը խոստացել է ամեն ուրբաթ այրել Ղուրանը Թուրքիայի դեսպանատան առջև, քանի դեռ Շվեդիան չի ընդունվել ՆԱՏՕ։

Շվեդիայի իշխանությունները Ղուրանի այրումը համարում են հանցագործություն։ Շնորհիվ այն բանի, որ Շվեդիայի իշխանությունները չեն միջամտել նման գործողություններին, Թուրքիայի նախագահ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանը հրաժարվել է աջակցել ՆԱՏՕ-ին անդամակցելու Շվեդիայի դիմումին։
