Ն.Ս.Օ.Տ.Տ. ԳԱՐԵԳԻՆ Երկրորդ Ամենայն Հայոց Կաթողիկոսի ուղերձ է հղել Սումգայիթի զոհերի հիշատակի ոգեկոչման առիթով, որում ասվում է.

«Սիրելի բարեպաշտ ժողովուրդ,

Այսօր ոգեկոչում ենք 1988 թ. Ադրբեջանի իշխանությունների կողմից կազմակերպված Սումգայիթի ջարդերի զոհերի հիշատակը։

Խորհրդային Միության փլուզումից հետո անկախացան Միության կազմում գտնվող երկրները, և Արցախի մեր ժողովուրդը նույնպես ինքնորոշման իրավունքով հռչակեց անկախ ապրելու իր կամքը։ Այս արդար որոշման դեմ Ադրբեջանի ողջ տարածքում ձեռնարկվեցին հայորդիների ջարդ ու կոտորած: Սումգայիթյան ոճրագործությունների կազմակերպիչները ծրագրած նոր եղեռնագործությամբ պարբերաբար զինված հարձակումների էին ենթարկում Արցախն ու Հայաստանի սահմանամերձ շրջանները։ Անցյալ տարի Ադրբեջանը Թուրքիայի և ահաբեկչական խմբավորումների հետ լայնածավալ ռազմական գործողություններ ձեռնարկեց Արցախի Հանրապետության դեմ՝ դաժանաբար գնդակոծելով երկրի տարածքը։ Զոհվեցին խաղաղ բնակիչներ, հայրենյաց պաշտպան մեր շատ զավակներ, տեղահանվեցին բազմահազար հայորդիներ, ավիրվեցին հոգևոր-մշակութային կոթողներ ու հուշարձաններ, կորցրեցինք Արցախի զգալի մասը, և դեռ կան անհայտ կորածներ ու գերեվարվածներ։ Ցավով ենք անդրադառնում, որ պատերազմի դադարից հետո տակավին տեղ են գտնում բռնություններ ու չարագործություններ, ոտնահարվում մեր երկրի ու ժողովրդի իրավունքները: Այս ողբերգական իրողությունները, արցախյան երկրորդ պատերազմի արհավիրքները վկայում են, որ Արցախը չի կարող լինել Ադրբեջանի կազմում։

Սիրելիներ, պատերազմի պատճառած կորուստների ցավը մեր սրտերում՝ միասնաբար ամեն ջանք ի գործ պիտի դնենք՝ հաղթահարելու աղետալի հետևանքներն ու փորձությունները, զորացնելու մեր հայրենիքը և կերտելու մեր կյանքի նոր ձեռքբերումներն ու հաջողությունները։

Խոնարհվելով մեր զոհերի վառ հիշատակի առջև՝ ի խորոց սրտի աղոթում ենք նրանց հոգիների հանգստության ու խաղաղության համար։ Հայցում ենք, որ Աստված Իր ողորմությունը, շնորհներն ու բարեգթությունը տարածյալ պահի համայն մեր ժողովրդի և մեր հայրենիքի վրա և պահպանի ամենախնամ Իր Սուրբ Աջի հովանու ներքո. ամեն»։
