Սեպտեմբերի 18-ին նշվում է Ջրի մոնիթորինգի համաշխարհային օրը, որը սահմանել է «Մաքուր ջրի ամերիկյան հիմնադրամ»-ը (ACWF) 2003 թվականին։
 
Այն միջազգային կրթական և իրազեկման ծրագիր է, որը զարգացնում է հանրության իրազեկությունը ամբողջ աշխարհում ջրային ռեսուրսների պաշտպանության կարևորության մասին՝ ներգրավելով մարդկանց՝ իրականացնելու տեղական ջրային մարմինների հիմնական մոնիթորինգը:
Ջրի մոնիթորինգի համաշխարհային օրը պաշտոնապես նշվում է ամեն տարի սեպտեմբերի 18-ին, սակայն մոնիթորինգային և կրթական միջոցառումները կարող են տեղի ունենալ ցանկացած պահի մարտի 22-ից մինչև դեկտեմբերի 31-ը ընկած ժամանակահատվածում:
 
Այս ընթացքում աշխարհի տարբեր ծայրերում մարդիկ հնարավորություն ունեն վերահսկելու իրենց տեղական ջրբաժանների որակը և իրենց ջանքերի արդյունքները մուտքագրելու միջազգային տվյալների բազա:
 Տոնի նպատակներից է մինչև 2030 թվականը բարելավել ջրի որակը` նվազեցնելով աղտոտվածությունը, վերացնելով թափոնները և նվազագույնի հասցնելով վտանգավոր քիմիական նյութերի և նյութերի արտանետումը, կրկնակի կրճատելով չմշակված կեղտաջրերի մասնաբաժինը և զգալիորեն ավելացնելով վերամշակումը և անվտանգ վերօգտագործումը ամբողջ աշխարհում:
 
 Մակերևութային և ստորերկրյա ջրերի աղտոտումն այսօր լուրջ խնդիր է ինչպես աշխարհում, այնպես էլ Հայաստանում, և կարևոր է իմանալ՝ ի՞նչ ջուր ենք օգտագործում, որքանո՞վ են մաքուր մեր գետերն ու լճերը, ի՞նչ աղտոտիչներ և վնասակար նյութեր են առկա քաղցրահամ ջրի աղբյուրներում։
Այս և մի շարք այլ հարցերի պատասխանները տալիս է ՇՄՆ «Հայհիդրոմետ» ՊՈԱԿ-ը՝ իրականացնելով ջրերի որակի և քանակի մոնիթորինգ:
