Հայաստանում ծխախոտի մշակությամբ սկսել են զբաղվել 19-րդ դարի սկզբից, իսկ 1924 թվականին կազմավորվել է Երևանի ծխախոտի ֆաբրիկան:

1977թ․ Երևանի ծխախոտի ֆաբրիկան վերակազմավորվեց և վերանվանվեց «Հայծխախոտարդ»՝ Հայաստանի ծխախոտի արտադրական միավորում, որի ավանդույթների կրողն այսօր «Գրանդ Տոբակո» (1997թ) և «Ինտերնեյշնլ Մասիս Տաբակ» (2002թ) ընկերություններն են՝ հիմնադրված Հրանտ Վարդանյանի կողմից: Այս ընկերությունների ստեղծմամբ սկսվեց հայկական ծխախոտի արտադրության վերածնունդը: 2012 թվականից Հրանտ Վարդանյանի որդիները՝ Միքայել և Կարեն Վարդանյանները, ստանձնել են «Գրանդ Հոլդինգի» կազմի մեջ մտնող ընկերությունների ղեկավարումը:

Ըստ տարեկան հաշվետվությունների՝ «Գրանդ Հոլդինգը» 2007 թվականից ՀՀ արտադրության ոլորտի առաջատար հարկատուն, արտահանողն ու գործատուն է: Միքայել Վարդանյանի խոսքով՝ «Գրանդ Հոլդինգի» կազմի մեջ մտնող ընկերություններն այսօր առաջարկում են միջազգային շուկայում մրցունակ, բարձրակարգ ծխախոտի բազմազան ընտրություն, ինչի շնորհիվ անհամեմատ ավելացել են արտադրության և արտահանման ծավալները, ընդլայնվել է նաև տեսականին՝ ընդգրկելով սիգարի և նարգիլեի համար նախատեսված ծխախոտի արտադրատեսակները:

«Հպարտ ենք շարունակել Հրանտ Վարդանյանի ժառանգած տասնամյակների գործը՝ ամենօրյա աշխատանքով ստեղծելով նորը և կատարելագործելով այն»,- նշում է Միքայել Վարդանյանը:

Ձեռնարկատիրական գործունեությունից բացի, Միքայել Վարդանյանն իրականացնում է նաև բազմաթիվ բարեգործական ծրագրեր: Բարերարն օգնում է հաշմանդամություն ունեցող անձանց, բազմազավակ և միայնակ մայրերին, զոհված զինծառայողների ընտանիքներին, հատուկ դպրոցներին, պետական բժշկական կենտրոններին, գյուղաբնակ անապահով ընտանիքներին նվիրաբերում է գյուղտեխնիկա և այլն:

2015 թվականին Միքայել ու Կարեն Վարդանյաններն ավարտին են հասցրել հոր՝ Հրանտ Վարդանյանի սկսած գործը՝ ֆինանսավորելով Մասիսի Սուրբ Թադեոս եկեղեցու կառուցումը:

Միքայել Վարդանյան բարերարն ու գործարարն ակտիվորեն շարունակում է իր հայրենանպաստ գործունեությունը, ընտանիքի հետ միասին ապրում է Երևան քաղաքում, ամուսնացած է, ունի երեք երեխա: Ազատ ժամանակ խաղում է սքվոշ ու բասկետբոլ:
