We will protect inviolability of Armenia's borders: Chairman of Helsinki Commission

We will protect the sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of Armenia's borders, Joe Wilson, chairman of the Helsinki Commission, said this during a press conference in Yerevan.

 

"We will try to support the return of prisoners of war. We also talked about it with the Speaker of the National Assembly," he said.

 

"I am very inspired by the people of Armenia. You have faced such situations for hundreds of years and managed to get out of them successfully, and I think that in the end there will be stability here in the South Caucasus, and it will be beneficial for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey," said Wilson.

 

"The goal of the peace treaty for Armenia should be to ensure that there are no military attacks on the borders, and the people of Armenia should have confidence that they can live in peace, and there is no threat of military action," said Senator Ben Cardin from the state of Maryland.

 

"This is also a normalization of relations, and the border checkpoints will be open, which is very important for Armenia, not only for the movement of people but also for trade. These are the goals of the peace treaty," he said.

 

"We support the release of all detained persons, we also attach importance to the protection of cultural heritage, but the peace treaty is important for Armenia in that it is sure that there will be no military operations by Azerbaijan, and there will be a settlement of relations, the border checkpoints will be open, and steps will be taken on other outstanding issues, and we want the peace treaty to be signed as soon as possible," Ben Cardin said.
