Opening of Armenia-Turkey border will be epoch-making event for our region: Prime Minister
ArmeniaThe opening of the Armenian-Turkish border will be an epoch-making event for the region, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Wednesday, speaking at a parliamentary session.
According to him, efforts should be made in this direction. "Here I cannot but touch upon one socio-psychological nuance. It is very important to fix that I am now talking about relations between Armenia and Turkey, not Armenian-Turkish relations. These two formulations have their common features," Pashinyan noted.
The Prime Minister noted that relations between Armenia and Turkey are currently in a waiting mode.
"Armenia is waiting for the implementation of the agreements reached and officially recorded. In particular, we are talking about opening the land border between Armenia and Turkey for the citizens of third countries and persons holding diplomatic passports," Pashinyan said.
The Prime Minister regretted that certain external players, guided by their own political or military-political goals, try to distort Armenia's foreign policy by putting forward false formulations on creating dividing lines in the region.
"Armenia has set a course for building a multi-vector policy, partnership and diversification in its relations, including consistent development of relations not only with France, the European Union, all EU countries, but also with India, China, South Korea and Japan, which means not creating dividing lines, but establishing friendly relations and cooperation with all countries, if possible," Pashinyan noted.
He called the establishment of diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia in 2023 a historic special event.
"For the entire period of our independence, we have not had diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia," Pashinyan recalled.
