Secular party wins parliamentary election in TunisiaPolitical
The secular political party Nidaa Tunisia (Call of Tunisia) won the parliamentary election with 85 seats in the 217-member assembly. This was announced on Thursday by the President of Supreme Electoral Commission of Tunisia Shafiq Sarsar.
Islamist party An Nahda (Renaissance) comes in second with 69 seats.
As for the other parties, Free Patriotic Union took 16 seats, Popular Front got 15 seats, and 8 seats were obtained by Afek Tounes (Tunisia's Horizon). All other parties received the remaining 24 seats.
Parliamentary election, which was held on 26 October, is the most significant event in the recent history of the country. As a result, a permanent legislative body — the 217-seat assembly — was created for the first time since the Tunisian Revolution in 2011 that brought down the regime of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
