Newspaper: Armenia facing water problem
SocietyZhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows: The Republic of Armenia is rich in water resources and has the largest reserves of fresh water in the region; however, it is necessary to use water wisely.
After "gifting" Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)] to the enemy [i.e. Azerbaijan], Armenia also lost Mets [(Great)] and Pokr [(Small)] Al lakes, which were considered the largest natural water sources of Armenia. It turns out that Armenia was deprived of large and abundant water sources.
Having lost the largest of the water sources, in 2022, the number of water intake from sources in Armenia was 3 million 71 thousand cubic meters. In 2018, water intake from sources was 2 million 714 thousand cubic meters, which, if we compare with 2022, we will see that water intake from sources in Armenia has increased by almost 1 million cubic meters. That is, the amount of water used for irrigation or other purposes has increased, but a part of the sources providing the RA water fund has decreased. That is the reason why fish producers are forced to close fish farms.
