Abbas calls for a stop to Israeli aggression ahead of Ramadan

Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas said on Tuesday (March 5) he discussed with his Turkish counterpart Erdogan means to "stop the brutal Israeli aggression and mass genocidal war" on the Palestinian people, Reuters reports.

 

Speaking at a joint presser in Ankara, Abbas said he and Erdogan talked about ways to stop Israeli attacks against holy Islamic and Christian sites in the Palestinian territories ahead of Ramadan.

 

Abbas also spoke about continuing efforts to unite Palestinian factions within the framework of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO), which he described as "the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people."

 

Turkey, which has harshly criticised Israel for its attacks on Gaza and backed measures to have it tried for genocide at the World Court, has repeatedly called for a ceasefire. But Ankara has no direct involvement in truce talks.
