Leakage of toxic nitrobenzene occurred Tuesday night in one of the buildings of Frankfurt Hoechst Industrial Park. A toxic cloud moved into residential areas. Residents of two Frankfurt districts, Hoechst and Unterliderbah, were alerted to the possible threat by the siren, though the German media allege there is no hazard at the moment.
The leakage occurred at the plant owned by Swiss chemical concern Clariant.
It took fire-brigades over an over to stop the leak.
The scale of the damage that the leak could have caused is still unknown. Thus, "the residents were asked to stay in their homes, close windows and doors, turn off air-conditioners and other climatic devices, and turn on the radio," - said the Fire Service representative in his interview with RIA.
