Thousands of people have marched through the streets of Rome to urge the coalition government of Enrico Letti to drop its austerity policy and focus on creating jobs.

Italy is in the middle of its worst economic downturn in 40 years. Its unemployment rate is at a historic high of 11.5%. People aged under 25 account for 38% of the jobless Italians.
