Zidane to be Madrid’s sporting director under Ancelotti
Sport
Florentino Pérez already has a post ready for Zidane for the season 2013-14: Sporting Director under Ancelotti. As TV program Punto Pelota confirmed yesterday and this newspaper announced on 7 May the Frenchman will have an important role within Ancelotti’s Madrid. Up to now Zidane has been the representative of the youth set-up, having previously been the official link between the board and the squad and before that First Team football director in Mou’s second season.
Zidane recommended Varane’s signing in 2011, with the young defender coming for 10 million euros, having played just 23 Ligue 1 games. He has proved to be a great signing. Zidane gets on well with Ancelotti, with whom he worked at Juventus between 1999 and 2001. Florentino will make an official announcement on 3 June if he wins the elections, in which it appears no other candidate will be running.
