Eifman ballet makes a stir in Canada
Science and culture
A new ballet by Russian choreographer Boris Eifman has created a furor in Canada. The ballet Rodin, the latest masterpiece by Eifman Ballet St.Petersburg, received storms of applause after the company presented it for the first time at the Toronto Arts Center on Thursday.
Boris Eifman says he was inspired by the tumultuous love affair between French sculptor Auguste Rodin and his muse and mistress Camille Claudel.
A visionary choreographer, Eifman describes his ballet as a “reflection on the terrible price a genius has to pay for his timeless artworks, and on the severe throes experienced by an artist”.
