Missing Children's Day in Russia
Russia
Russia marks International Day of Missing Children. Its aim is to attract world public attention to this problem and find new ways to prevent the disappearance of children, TASS reported.
The date was fixed in 2010 at the initiative of the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children operating in the US.
The Children’s Rights Department at the Russian President’s Administration reports that over 13.5 thousand children go missing in Russia annually.
Representatives of special units at the Russian Interior Ministry name two major reasons for the tragedies. One is emotional when children lack their parents’ attention or overreact to incomprehension. The other is criminal when children are kidnapped.
