"Mr. Serzh Sargsyan, we want a bus." Ptghni village residents, voting for you, get to Yerevan by summer residents' trucks
Armenia
Recently Galatv.am has received a complaint from students living in Ptghni village of Kotayk region. They argue that the head of the village administration has canceled the only route number 106, which connects the village to the capital, leaving the students to "arbitrariness of summer residents."
Student Angelica Muradian, who studies in Yerevan, told GALA:
"For several years, the village has not had transport, many times we have appealed to the village administration, demanding, but we have been denied, without any reason. And recently they have said that they are not interested in our complaints. We have written complaints and petitions to the President, the Minister of Communication and Transport - nothing helped. There are people who are ready to work on this route, but the head of the village administration does not allow. The village is located near Yerevan. Ptghni is closer than Abovyan. There is a transport in Abovyan, but it works without a clear timetable. We urgently need transport to Yerevan, as many villagers are working or studying in the capital.
Students told the reporter of GALA, that they conducted several protests, but the head of the village administration dis not respond to the protest of students: "We voted for Serzh Sargsyan, Mr. Serzh Sargsyan, how long can we hope for gardeners to take us to instituts...? We want to learn."
When asked about what they have in mind saying "summer residents", Angelica Mouradian, explained: "They are owners of country houses in our area, sometimes they give us a lift to Yerevan. We can not use taxi every day, and many people in village do not have cars. That is, we are forced to stand idle for more than 40 minutes at the station, waiting for a passing car. Understand that there are almost all relatives in village, so no one dares to complain. So we were left to fend for ourselves, one hope are "summer residents."
Villagers of Ptghni sure that the head of the village administration, Araqel Virabian, has canceled the only route linking the village with Yerevan, solely because of his personal business interests. The fact is that he has two stores, a greenhouse and a bakery in the village, so he does not want the villagers to shop in the city.
