China's navy carries out a rare joint exercise

China's navy last week carried out a rare joint exercise, involving its three fleets, in the South China Sea as regional tensions mount.
The combined drill was carried out in southern waters by warships, submarines and the naval air force from the People's Liberation Army's North Sea, East Sea and South Sea fleets, reports "Russia 24".
China, experts note, once again flaunts its naval clout against the background of a flared up territorial dispute with the Philippines over the Spratly islands. In addition, Beijing is sending a signal to the United States, whose aircraft carrier "Nimitz" is now in the waters of the South China Sea.
